Hello friends today here we are with a very famous gujarati street food recipe which belongs to surat city of gujarat. This yummy tummy and delicious gujarati cuisine dish is well known as surti locho. Here you will see the traditional surti locha recipe with special surti locho masala and chutney used. Mainly it is prepared from soaked chana dal or split Bengal gram and vati khaman dhokla batter, locho chutney, locho masala, besan sev, onions an some other spices.

This is really very simple and easy to make street fast food recipe plus can be cooked in few minutes if batter, chutney and masala are readily available. You can prepare this unique gujarati food for morning breakfast or any time you want to eat. With being delicious this tempting street food dish is also very healthy and nutritious too. Ingredients for Surti Locho:

Ingredients for Locho:

150 gm Chana Dal or Split Bengal Gram Soaked in Water for 6 Hours.
2 Pieces of Vati Dal Khaman.
1 tbsp Ginger Chilli Paste.
1/8 tsp Turmeric Powder.
Salt as per taste.
1/8 tsp Cooking Soda.
1 tbsp Oil.

Ingredients for Locho Chutney:

2 Pieces of Vati Dal Khaman.
50 gm Blenched Spinach.
1 Small Piece of Ginger.
3 Green Chillies.
2 tbsp Coriander Leaves.
1 tbsp Sugar.
1 tsp Lemon Juice.
Salt as per taste.

Ingredients for Locho Masala:

1 tsp Red Chilli Powder.
1 tsp Pepper Powder.
1 tsp Chaat Masala.
1 tsp Rock Salt or Kala Namak.
1 tsp Roasted Cumin Powder.
1 tsp Garam Masala.

Other Ingredients:

Besan Sev as per required.
Oil or Butter as per required.
Finely Chopped Onions as per required.

Surti Locho Preparations:

  • For making chutney take a mixer jar and put blenched spinach, coriander leaves, salt, sugar, lemon juice, ginger, green chillies and vati dal khaman pieces.
  • Now add in about 1-2 tbsp water and blend it well to make smooth chutney from it and keep aside, chutney is ready.
  • Now for making masala take another mixer jar and put pepper powder, cumin powder, red chilli powder, rock salt, garam masala and chaat masala.
  • Now blend it well so all the spices get mixed nicely with each other then take out in bowl and keep aside, masala is ready.
  • Now wash the soaked chana dal in running water twice or thrice then put in mixer jar along with vati dal khaman and some water.
  • Now blend till become smooth paste, make sure that batter should not be too thick or thin.
  • Consistency of batter should be like of dhokla batter, take out the batter in a bowl and keep aside to set for 3 hours.
  • After 3 hours add in ginger chilli paste, turmeric powder, salt, cooking soda and whip the batter nicely then add in 1 tsp oil and again whip it nicely.
  • Now put the batter in greased plate and put the plate in a steamer and stem it for 12-15 minutes.
  • After 12-15 minutes turn the gas off and take out the hot locha in a serving plate using spatula.
  • Now put some oil or butter then some onions, besan sev, green chutney and locho masala on it and serve the delicious surti locho.

Instructions

  • For making chutney take a mixer jar and put blenched spinach, coriander leaves, salt, sugar, lemon juice, ginger, green chillies and vati dal khaman pieces.
  • Now add in about 1-2 tbsp water and blend it well to make smooth chutney from it and keep aside, chutney is ready.
  • Now for making masala take another mixer jar and put pepper powder, cumin powder, red chilli powder, rock salt, garam masala and chaat masala.
