Millet Khichdi Recipe | Bajra Khichdi Recipe | Gujarati Khichadi.

Hello friends today here we are with another main course recipe from gujarati cuisine which is well known as millet khichdi. Usually khichdi is prepared from rice and lentils but this one is prepared from millet, moong lentil, onion, carrot, tomato, capsicum and some other spices. It is cooked in most of the gujarati and Rajasthani households for dinner and sometimes for lunch also. This khichdi is not just the delicious one but it’s very healthy and nutritious.

If you want to have something light and healthy in your dinner than nothing good than this khichdi. This gujarati khichadi is really very simple and easy to make plus requires very less time to cook is well. It goes really good with kadhi and raita but you can also serve this with any curries of your choice. Along with this you may also like rice and dal khichadi, white kadhi, rasiya muthiya dhokla etc……..

Ingredients for Millet Khichdi:

Main Ingredients:

200 gm Bajra or Black Millet.
50 gm Yellow Moong Lentil.
1 Finely Chopped Onion.
1 Finely Chopped Carrot.
1 Finely Chopped Capsicum.
1 Finely Chopped Tomato.

Other Spices/Ingredients:

1 tbsp Cumin and Mustard Seeds.
1 tbsp Ginger Garlic Chilli Paste.
½ tsp Red Chilli Powder.
½ tsp Garam Masala.
½ tsp Turmeric Powder.
Salt according to taste.
3 tbsp Oil.

Garnishing:

Some Fresh Coriander Leaves.
2 Dry Red Chillies.
Some Chopped Carrots.

Millet Khichdi Preparations:

  • Clean the millet and soak in water for 12 hours, after 12 hours remove all the water and grind the millet coarsely in a mixer grinder then take out in a bowl.
  • Now heat oil in a non stick pan, when oil gets hot add in cumin and mustard seeds and let them crackle.
  • Now add in finely chopped onion along with carrots and cook both till get soft.
  • Now add in capsicum and saute for little time then add in ginger garlic chilli paste and saute it also for little time.
  • Now add in turmeric powder, red chilli powder, salt and water as per required.
  • Now add in garam masala, tomatoes, coarsely grinded millet and moong lentil.
  • Now cover and cook it for 12-15 minutes at medium low heat, stir in between.
  • When water get evaporated and khichadi get cooked turn the heat off.
  • Now take out the khichdi in a serving bowl and garnish with coriander leaves, dry red chilies, carrots and serve hot.
